Engine of Innovation Steps

One of the major lessons learned as a Training Manager and Corporate Learning Officer is the superficial nature of training programs. In that way, Training & Development within organizations is just the continuation of ‘Education’.

We ‘think’ that by sending people to training programs they ‘learn’. We keep track of who went to what courses and we put a checkmark behind their name … Check = Competent.

For me this is just ‘fraud’. Learning to become really competent takes much more time and effort. The ‘Brain’ is not a recorder! Training & Development is big business but it is more related to ‘incentives’ than real learning.

For this reason an important part of the EOI Mindset focusses on what is real learning and the consequences of this on becoming competent in the use of the EOI Mindset.

We started to call this Engine of Innovation Competence Development and it happens with a process called ‘Engine of Innovation Stepping’.

Engine of Innovation Stepping

EOI Stepping is a development strategy (4-steps) explained in the Red Monkey Story. This strategy is part of the Engine of Innovation Mindset and is based on what we have called ‘Engine of Innovation Competence Development’. It guides Experts, Managers and Executives in becoming EOI Professionals able to boost their Personal Engine of Innovation, the Engine of Innovation of Teams and the Engine of Innovation of Organizations.

The different steps to become an Engine of Innovation Professional are …

  1. Awakening
    During this first step we try to awaken people. We do this by telling the Red Monkey Story, an eye-opening tale about the needed transformation in learning, working and innovation.   2. Learning
    During this step we support people in learning the Engine of Innovation Mindset. Learning will only happen after successful awakening. That’s the moment people accept the value of the EOI Mindset and become eager to learn! Able to teach the EOI Mindset is part of the Learning Step.

  3. Inspiring
    After and during learning, we will guide people in formulating ideas that will boost the learning & innovation power of people, teams, organizations and regions. We will use the Engine of Innovation Matrices to bring order in the chaos of organizational development. The right inspiring becomes better to more you have learned the EOI Mindset!

  4. Tuning
    During this step Engine of Innovation Ideas will become Engine of Innovation Projects. At this point the community will become a Community of Engine of Innovation Practice where we will promote Open Culture Innovation. This is the last step in EOI Competence Development. It is the step were you learn by doing … by making errors that will awaken you again and again en create the passion to learn more and more.

Remark …

Engine of Innovation stepping is not a one way ‘journey’ … it is a cycle that repeats itself because again and again you will discover new things that will trigger awakening and EOI Stepping starts again. This is how the brain learns … this is how new neural connections are built … and this is unique for every person.


Consequences

The EOI Mindset and EOI Stepping as part of this mindset to embed Red Monkey Innovation Management, are fundamental keystones of the Red Monkey Company. The same as IOS is for Apple or Windows for Microsoft or Android for Google, it is our Operating System for Organizational Cultures.

The EOI Mindset will evolve but it will remain keystone and this has impact on the development of the Red Monkey Company Portfolio!
